For hat day we read the book <u>The Hat</u> by Jan Brett</center>

<img alt="Image result for the hat by jan brett" src="https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51qMX4XJE%2BL._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg" /></center>
<center>
In this book the hedgehog gets stuck wearing an unusual hat, a woolen stocking. He encounters many of the animals on the farm who ask him about his unique headwear. </center>
<center>
After the story, the kids colored and cut out pictures of the animals and glued them in order of apperance in the book.</center>

Did you know that the letter H's favorite thing to do is to hide? We found some of those tricky hiding letter H's and sorted them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FQQ5Qe-Cqe8/WiGTh10_1KI/AAAAAAAADlw/xmAFPzeVu1EPi3ByNXnclx5gQUQkoxqogCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4286.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FQQ5Qe-Cqe8/WiGTh10_1KI/AAAAAAAADlw/xmAFPzeVu1EPi3ByNXnclx5gQUQkoxqogCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4286.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then in honor of their favorite activity, we played hide and seek for a few minutes. This is usually one of our favorite days. The kids have a blast and I love the excuse to make my kids clean their closets and under their beds.</div>

<center>
We learned about how to make graphs during letter G week. I provided a paper with all the kid's names listed at the top and a bar graph below that. We counted the number of letters in each name and made a bar graph based on how many letters were in the name. </center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jlGCClbYLNw/WiGPC7SMnMI/AAAAAAAADkg/TF0QEu7LyWkUh8a-uULpsNxAgGzoM8JtgCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4231.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jlGCClbYLNw/WiGPC7SMnMI/AAAAAAAADkg/TF0QEu7LyWkUh8a-uULpsNxAgGzoM8JtgCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4231.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are a few things I did to make this lesson go more smoothly:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1. When putting the names at the top of the page, I made each name a different color. Since most of my kids can't read, I could ask them to look for the blue name or red name, etc. and then we would count the letters together. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2. I made a large graph that I displayed and filled in as the kids were filling in theirs so they could check if they were doing it right.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3. At the beginning we did the first 3 names together. The kids who were able to work more independently moved on and the kids who still needed help continued to do it with me. </div>

. . . float. We found letters and created words using floating bottle caps. </center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8OzBHMz6EMQ/WiGI-WaJtqI/AAAAAAAADjY/xOHI7FzJodk9c6xyL32HcG0uRM2leuNggCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4194.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8OzBHMz6EMQ/WiGI-WaJtqI/AAAAAAAADjY/xOHI7FzJodk9c6xyL32HcG0uRM2leuNggCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4194.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<center>
The kids would pick a letter or word from the laminated word stips. Then they would fish out the bottle caps with the correct letters on them. </center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T8Z9mZP8HrI/WiGI-cjVb4I/AAAAAAAADjc/yYAMOKdStgUvVMi5yIXiVjZ2y9uSTU23gCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4197.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T8Z9mZP8HrI/WiGI-cjVb4I/AAAAAAAADjc/yYAMOKdStgUvVMi5yIXiVjZ2y9uSTU23gCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4197.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<center>
This is an engaging and easy activity to do any time. You just need plastic bottle caps (like from juice containers, milk gallons, or gatorade bottles), water, and a slotted spoon. I just used a sharpie to write the letters on the inside of the cap. Sometimes they start to fade and I just rewrite them when that happens. </center>
<center>
</center>
<center>
. . . fly. The kids practiced identifying letters with our fly swat game. I would call out a letter and they would swat it with the fly swatter. Want to play your own fly swat game? Download our alphabet of flies <u><b><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/16QOZF96vd2ZSDDDGge733SYo4b23-oRq/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">here</a>.</b></u></center>

<u><b><br /></b></u></center>

. . . fall. We read the book, <u>Let It Fall</u>. After we used tissue paper to make our own fall trees. </center>

. . . dump! The kids filled a bucket choosing only items that started with the letter d and when it was full, they got to dump it out. For a more detailed post on how to create your own dumping activity, see the post <a href="http://chipmanscornerpreschool.blogspot.com/2017/01/d-is-for.html" target="_blank">here.</a></center>

</center>
<center>
. . . dotted diamonds! We used bingo markers to make dots on a diamond. I have seen the bingo markers in the pen or kids craft section of the dollar store. </center>
<center>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1Em75EBWp7w/WiGKr07D7BI/AAAAAAAADj8/DfrS8NKr_k0eFY0Ah7unprrttltselUewCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4137.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1Em75EBWp7w/WiGKr07D7BI/AAAAAAAADj8/DfrS8NKr_k0eFY0Ah7unprrttltselUewCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4137.JPG" width="320" /></a></center>
<center>
We read the book <u>Lots of Dots</u> by Craig Fraizer. It shows how dots can be used to make fun pictures.</center>
<center>
<img alt="Image result for lots of dots" height="320" src="https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41w9BOmdntL.jpg" width="253" /></center>

<center>
. . . dinosaur feet! We used cracker boxes to create dinosaur feet. I spray painted each one green. The kids painted them and added claws using double sided tape that I put on th edge of each box. </center>

<center>
Then we had a lot of fun stomping around the classroom and being dinosaurs. (This is a picture I took of Brandon later in the day for our family blog. The pictures I took during class were too blurry to use.)</center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We had so much fun on our annual fire station open house fieldtrip. I was so excited that so many parents were able to join us and I hope the kids had fun, were inspired, and learned a little too. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We tried on fireman apparrel.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BoadfE9UdOU/WiGB84jG9AI/AAAAAAAADiQ/n3FxS2F3rngsjHYlNu6QXx-iHr9u2UcdwCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4070.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BoadfE9UdOU/WiGB84jG9AI/AAAAAAAADiQ/n3FxS2F3rngsjHYlNu6QXx-iHr9u2UcdwCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4070.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hBYoK9tLD04/WiGB88WwDfI/AAAAAAAADiU/TcL5xnzjKdwO6lw5hCGefB04GyZFFwOnwCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4073.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hBYoK9tLD04/WiGB88WwDfI/AAAAAAAADiU/TcL5xnzjKdwO6lw5hCGefB04GyZFFwOnwCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4073.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We watched how they put out fires in two ways. The lit this huge tower of fire. We could feel how warm it was even though we were so far away. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mtdKP57WsAU/WiGB8yi6EHI/AAAAAAAADiY/O8TmRWziiqsf_eC-YUFxlERyioAwOpCcgCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4077.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mtdKP57WsAU/WiGB8yi6EHI/AAAAAAAADiY/O8TmRWziiqsf_eC-YUFxlERyioAwOpCcgCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4077.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First the firemen put it out with a hand held hose. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RQ-NmXWqMtA/WiGB-u2SQFI/AAAAAAAADic/DOVWYzV6HPMUWI2oUsEso7hKIlVTeL0RQCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4079.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RQ-NmXWqMtA/WiGB-u2SQFI/AAAAAAAADic/DOVWYzV6HPMUWI2oUsEso7hKIlVTeL0RQCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4079.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Next they used a mounted ladder hose on a fire truck.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wvBFNI2I4rM/WiGB_RL01YI/AAAAAAAADig/m_nZiBWL8uYa3H0fqZcVqHbZex8t_10XACLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4081.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wvBFNI2I4rM/WiGB_RL01YI/AAAAAAAADig/m_nZiBWL8uYa3H0fqZcVqHbZex8t_10XACLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4081.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We checked out an ambulance. (Don't mind our photo bomer in the front left. Haha)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2ijQgSovdiQ/WiGB_UR5QrI/AAAAAAAADik/irTix5Gb0bk-ZXKH2-b69go5zsWiONb9wCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4084.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2ijQgSovdiQ/WiGB_UR5QrI/AAAAAAAADik/irTix5Gb0bk-ZXKH2-b69go5zsWiONb9wCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4084.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The kids also learned what to do in a fire by crawling through a "smoke" filled trailer. (It was really just a fog machine.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eBQdstucv_Q/WiGCAqwkFiI/AAAAAAAADio/jSuG1jUko3IjnPhT64aP2oUZYBmV_5YkQCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4088.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eBQdstucv_Q/WiGCAqwkFiI/AAAAAAAADio/jSuG1jUko3IjnPhT64aP2oUZYBmV_5YkQCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4088.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We watched a demonstation of how they help in car crashes. They took apart a car! It was pretty cool.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9rB1rB6BxQs/WiGCBaLE-8I/AAAAAAAADis/kUllwvTtyM0bFp44NiRWDd4PI72pNgqsACLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4090.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9rB1rB6BxQs/WiGCBaLE-8I/AAAAAAAADis/kUllwvTtyM0bFp44NiRWDd4PI72pNgqsACLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4090.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And one of the kids' favorite parts was getting high fives from the firemen.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cZvHkjjRaSM/WiGCBfncfCI/AAAAAAAADiw/SVcrTIybdSE8eV3OBbLhifk-sItwvqCoACLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4096.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cZvHkjjRaSM/WiGCBfncfCI/AAAAAAAADiw/SVcrTIybdSE8eV3OBbLhifk-sItwvqCoACLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4096.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

. . . cookies! We sang C is for Cookie with the cookie monster (on youtube). We read the awesome book, "The Doorbell Rang" by Pat Hutchins about some kids who have to share some cookies with their friends in a fair way. Then we learned how to "share" cookies. Each child got 12 cookie cereal pieces (think cookie crisp) and 6 paper people. They practiced sharing cookies with different numbers of people. </center>

After they shared their cookies equally, they would write on a worksheet how many cookies each person got. </center>
<center>
This is one of my favorite lessons, it is a fun way to introduce division to young children using the idea of sharing fairly. It really makes them stretch and grow.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

If you're looking for some fun Thanksgiving songs to sing with your littles, look no further! </center>
<center>
</center>
<center>
A couple of years ago I made these turkey finger puppets to use during singing time. The kids are able to use their fingers as the legs for the turkeys and make the little turkeys run.</center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C1NyeEDO8ck/WgfS0M33kEI/AAAAAAAADh8/o27H9mgHs0QICDfmUqL18g5JvIpUOPyoACLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4212.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C1NyeEDO8ck/WgfS0M33kEI/AAAAAAAADh8/o27H9mgHs0QICDfmUqL18g5JvIpUOPyoACLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4212.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<center>
</center>
<center>
Here we are at the carpet getting ready to sing some fun Thanksgiving related songs using our turkey finger puppets. Oh my goodness, look at these cuties! Some of their faces are cracking me up. We're still working on looking at the camera. Hahaha.</center>
<center>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UomlDuZ3CgY/WgfS0WoAqLI/AAAAAAAADiA/oRJPc07LFOkpYctOlERujo9LWJaA5htUwCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF4206.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UomlDuZ3CgY/WgfS0WoAqLI/AAAAAAAADiA/oRJPc07LFOkpYctOlERujo9LWJaA5htUwCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF4206.JPG" width="320" /></a></center>
<center>
</center>
<center>
A friend of mine gave me the puppets to copy. To make your own you could use <a href="http://www.dinkycow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/turkey-finger-puppet1.jpg" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">these finger puppets</span> </a>from dinkycow.com. (The finger holes should be about 3/4 of an inch wide. Adjust as necessary.) You could also use turkey popsicle stick puppets or turkey finger puppets. </center>
<center>
</center>
<center>
Here are a few songs that are easy to sing to celebrate this fun day.</center>
<center>
</center>
<center>
<u><b>Gobble-gobble Says the Bird</b></u></center>
<center>
(To the tune of <i>"If You're Happy and You Know It"</i>)</center>
<center>
Gobble-gobble, gobble-gobble says the bird.</center>
<center>
Gobble-gobble, gobble-gobble says the bird.</center>
<center>
Mr. Turkey gobble-gobbles,</center>
<center>
And his feet go wobble-wobble.</center>
<center>
Gobble-gobble, gobble-gobble says the bird.</center>
<center>
</center>
<center>
<u><b>Turkey, Turkey</b></u></center>
<center>
(To the tune of <i>"Twinkle Little Star"</i>)</center>
<center>
Turkey, turkey, look at you!</center>
<center>
Please be careful what you do.</center>
<center>
Thanksgiving Day is almost here.</center>
<center>
We eat turkey every year.</center>
<center>
Go and hide out in the woods,</center>
<center>
We'll eat pizza, as we should.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</center>
<center>
<u><b>Mr. Turkey</b></u></center>
<center>
(To the tune of <i>"Frere Jacques"</i>)</center>
<center>
Mr. Turkey, Mr. Turkey,</center>
<center>
Run away! Run away!</center>
<center>
If you are not careful,</center>
<center>
You will be a mouthful,</center>
<center>
Thanksgiving day, Thanksgiving day.</center>
<center>
</center>
<center>
</center>
<center>

. . . apple picking</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We used our fine motor skills to pick apples off a tree with tongs. The kids rolled a dice and then picked that many apples off the tree and put them in their bucket. For this activity we used a 6 sided dice and practiced counting the pips (dots) on the side of the dice we rolled. Then we picked that many apples off the tree until our tree was bare. This center was meant to work on the one to one principle when counting. i.e. we count one time for each (one) thing we see. </div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the next apple picking activity we used a 12 sided dice. There were numbered apples on the tree. The kids identified which number they rolled then picked the corresponding apple off the tree. For this activity we were working on identifying numbers. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
We made thumbprint ants on a letter a. Each child made sure the ants had 3 body parts, 6 legs, 2 antenna, and a face. </div>

<br />
. . . apples (again.) :)<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
We did an activity with 10 apples up on top. We did the project seen <a href="http://chipmanscornerpreschool.blogspot.com/2012/08/10-apples-up-on-top.html" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">here</span></a>, but added an element of complexity. I wrote the numbers using dots instead of writing them completely. The kids connected the dots and traced each number from 1 - 10. Then the kids put the apples in numerical order onto their headband and glued them on. We were working again on number recognition. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Skeletons are inspiring us this season and helping us get into the Halloween spirit. For letter B week we learned about our bones and what they do for our body. We learned that bones give us shape and protect us. Without them we would be a mushy puddle on the floor. </center>
<center>
Here's a simple skeleton we made using long and short q-tips. </center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z2QsRjOsVrY/WduAdBz0ekI/AAAAAAAADfQ/mGRMb4hAF50dyVaF2toqTCh6jvzrxqlPwCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF3979.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z2QsRjOsVrY/WduAdBz0ekI/AAAAAAAADfQ/mGRMb4hAF50dyVaF2toqTCh6jvzrxqlPwCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF3979.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<center>
</center>
<center>
Here's What You Need:</center>
<center>
5 long q-tips</center>
<center>
8 half q-tips</center>
<center>
black paper</center>
<center>
paper cut out skull</center>
<center>
liquid glue</center>
<center>
</center>
<center>
Here's What You Do:</center>
<center>
(for younger kids do steps 1 and 2 for them to help them get started)</center>
<center>
1. Glue 1 long q-tip to the middle of your page</center>
<center>
2. Glue the skull at the top of that q-tip</center>
<center>
3. Use the short q-tips to glue ribs on each side of the back bone.</center>
<center>
4. Add legs and arms.</center>
<center>
</center>
<center>
Easy peasy lemon squezzy!</center>

Every class that I have taught is different and has their own personalities. This class cracks me up because I cannot get them to look at the camera for the life of me. I try to be as quick as I can when taking pictures of the students during center time or class so I don't disrupt the class time. So sometimes we don't get the best shot and sometimes I can't get them to look at the camera, but we just move on. So I thought I'd throw that disclaimer out there because this class is the "looking dramatically into the distance" picture taking class. Maybe they all have great modeling careers ahead of them. :)</center>

Pipe cleaners and straws make an amazing opportunity for kids to be creative and learn about shapes or letters. We worked on making shapes and identifying them during centers time. For more instructions see this post <a href="http://chipmanscornerpreschool.blogspot.com/2014/02/straw-letters-and-shapes.html" target="_blank">here.</a></center>

Every year we read this amazing book called Color Zoo by Lois Ehlert. We use her inspiration of making animal faces using simple shapes to create our own animal faces. Each child is given a picture of their favorite animal and we decide together what shapes should make the different features of the face. I provide them with precut shapes and they assemble the faces. I must say that this year is definitely our best batch of animal faces yet! We got to make some really fun faces like rhinos, giraffes, and elephants. Check our your child's amazing creations, you are about to be blown away!</div>

During week two we really focused on colors. I am impressed with the kids, they did an awesome job. To explore colors, we made a color wheel with primary and secondary colors using play-dough. Each child started with a small amount of red, yellow, and blue. We put those colors on the wheel and then explored what would happen if we started mixing colors. The kids made predictions and then we tried it out to see if they were right. </center>

In addition to colors, I introduced rhyming to the class. Rhyming is a great way to encourage word and sound awareness. We do a lot of rhyming during carpet time and singing time. Introducing this concept early in the year helps bring more awareness to the kids when we work on these concepts every day.</center>
<center>
I found this amazing rhyming printable from Karen at Prekinders and was excited to use it with the kids. They cut out and matched rhyming pictures together as an introduction to rhyming. </center>

<center>
We had such a fun first week back at school. I am really excited for this year because these kids are not only adorable, but they are so much fun to work with. I have already been impressed with their ability to listen and apply what we are talking about to what they are doing. They are amazing at receiving feedback in a constructive way. And I must say that these 3 year olds seem to be naturals at using scissors! I had some of them cutting on lines today and they could actually do it! Hubba wha? (Can you name the Mo Willems books that came from? Hint: it involves a duck and a chick. ;) ) For those of you who have worked with kids learning how to use scissors, you know that this is not a normal second time using scissors experience! Pretty dang awesome. Here are some fun pictures of the kids working together using a puzzle and a parachute. </center>

<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pl75JJNzJKQ/WbguD02SagI/AAAAAAAADc8/pgMW2mutkx4ZU2je_iHiNyGa4VUI179GACLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF3893.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pl75JJNzJKQ/WbguD02SagI/AAAAAAAADc8/pgMW2mutkx4ZU2je_iHiNyGa4VUI179GACLcBGAs/s320/DSCF3893.JPG" width="320" /></a></center>
<center>
In our first week of school we spent the first day getting into a routine and discussing what it means to have good manners at preschool. The second day we talked about what it means to work together. We each got a few pieces of an extra big puzzle that we worked on together to complete. We also played some parachute games together which takes listening and team work to make the game work. </center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gUxG_aiwMps/WbguD6PHsCI/AAAAAAAADc4/wb67QwaQcnMV_sFOOl8LhUI2KqXaq_8sQCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF3889.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gUxG_aiwMps/WbguD6PHsCI/AAAAAAAADc4/wb67QwaQcnMV_sFOOl8LhUI2KqXaq_8sQCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF3889.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<center>
</center>
<center>
Three year olds are notoriously self centered. When they start school it is a big shift for them that there are other students and the teacher who they have to consider. Sometimes we don't want to share, but it is something that we do at preschool. Sometimes someone takes something that we were using and we have to learn to use our words to ask for it back without hitting or yelling. Sometimes the teacher asks us to come work at the table when we really want to keep playing blocks. All these situations and many more make preschool a pretty complex place to be. My job is to help them learn how to navigate those complex situations so they can learn good manners and team work while they are at school. </center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wwZu4as9o7Y/WbguEyCOztI/AAAAAAAADdA/BDVmwtNrKxcNqUk5kBQRTiU-P3XKOL4iwCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCF3896.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wwZu4as9o7Y/WbguEyCOztI/AAAAAAAADdA/BDVmwtNrKxcNqUk5kBQRTiU-P3XKOL4iwCLcBGAs/s320/DSCF3896.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<center>
</center>
<center>
My favorite skill for teaching this is practice. "<u><b>Try again</b></u>" are the two most important words you can use to help your children learn good manners. You will often hear these words in our house and in my classroom. Forget to say please? "Try again." If a child whines or back talks, "try again." If a kid does a chore or an assignment lazily, "try again." If they talk meanly to others, we "try again." If we make a mistake we practice doing it differently through role play or sometimes redoing an assignment. My amazing husband has helped me understand that the classroom and the home are the best places to make mistakes because mistakes are how we learn and grow. He has a sign in his classroom that says. "Whoever does the work, does the learning." So my goal is that we will work hard on having good manners, understanding how to follow directions, and learning skills that will help us be our most awesome selves so we can do all the learning!</center>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's What You Need:</div>
<br />
<ul>
<li>gallon ziplock bag (You need to use name brand bags, cheap bags will leak. We learned this the hard way the first time we made it.)</li>
<li>rubbing alcohol</li>
<li>pasta variety of your choice</li>
<li>food coloring</li>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's What You Do:</div>
<br />
<ol>
<li>Put 1/4 c rubbing alcohol in the bag.</li>
<li> Put 10-20 drops of food coloring into the bag. (If doing blue pasta, put 20 drops. The yellow color of the pasta makes it necessary to do extra blue.)</li>
<li>Add 1 c of pasta.</li>
<li> Shake bag until pasta is dark in color and evenly coated.</li>
<li> Let dry over night spread out on a paper towel.</li>
</ol>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thank you to Brilliant Beginnings preschool for the recipe!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>What You Need:</u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1 felt square</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
washi or painters tape</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
yarn</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A83ZLAllFSg/WLWjz1r1DPI/AAAAAAAADbE/OlFQSJvn1SEYfm9vcV444xihjKnZd962QCLcB/s1600/DSCF3423.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A83ZLAllFSg/WLWjz1r1DPI/AAAAAAAADbE/OlFQSJvn1SEYfm9vcV444xihjKnZd962QCLcB/s320/DSCF3423.JPG" width="320" /></a><br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>What You Do:</u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. Fold the felt like a paper fan. Accordion style along the long side and pinch the middle<br />
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tnkYDrMfiU4/WLWjzwqGz1I/AAAAAAAADa8/iXRocYKebc4_dSDPk2MBrxlMbVpFpcn6ACLcB/s1600/DSCF3428.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tnkYDrMfiU4/WLWjzwqGz1I/AAAAAAAADa8/iXRocYKebc4_dSDPk2MBrxlMbVpFpcn6ACLcB/s320/DSCF3428.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2, While it's pinched, lay some yarn across the top.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. Tape it around the middle.<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h8rURI3pl3E/WLWj0rBYpTI/AAAAAAAADbI/E8gswu-r17QYhm3-LyD1A1r1-Tb4S96BgCLcB/s1600/DSCF3430.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h8rURI3pl3E/WLWj0rBYpTI/AAAAAAAADbI/E8gswu-r17QYhm3-LyD1A1r1-Tb4S96BgCLcB/s320/DSCF3430.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4. Tie the yarn to the desired length. Voila! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now add some whiskers, a real or paper Cat in the Hat hat and you're on your way!</div>

Is anyone else bummed about the groundhog's six more weeks of winter? Here in Utah, the weather is just teasing us. Yesterday it was sunny and 65 degrees. This morning we woke up to snow. Being a California girl at heart, I was not very excited. I tried to convince my husband that I wasn't getting up until it stopped snowing, but he didn't think that would go down with the kids very well. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you are missing the beautiful green of spring and summer like me, I have just the solution for you!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We had a lot of fun growing grass this year and creating some fun characters with some funky hair. (Sorry about the bad pictures, I had to snap a few before these guys went home the next day.) We like to use clear cups so the kids can observe the roots and grass as it starts to sprout.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q_ppXeZP-cw/WKyCyum-p2I/AAAAAAAADZw/UuOJ1NIVvzcWOx-5OTfV_7URgSx_hqI8QCLcB/s1600/DSCF2919.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q_ppXeZP-cw/WKyCyum-p2I/AAAAAAAADZw/UuOJ1NIVvzcWOx-5OTfV_7URgSx_hqI8QCLcB/s320/DSCF2919.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
We found this fast growing grass seed at home depot and they weren't kidding. It did grow really fast.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1yAvsYN7LMc/WKyCyvgxtbI/AAAAAAAADZs/z0bJHDlGJiEyjvhNdFk_ktNByrVZLSVkwCLcB/s1600/DSCF2863.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1yAvsYN7LMc/WKyCyvgxtbI/AAAAAAAADZs/z0bJHDlGJiEyjvhNdFk_ktNByrVZLSVkwCLcB/s320/DSCF2863.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I printed some cartoon eyes and mouths on sticker paper. I used the kind that you find in the address labels section that is a full sheet. I also printed each child's name so they could watch their grass head grow.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Gd-qzg94gBM/WKyCxZFPOXI/AAAAAAAADZk/0Q3nalxdWc8uxHNxQQz6mEs0xWib8J02gCLcB/s1600/DSCF2862.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Gd-qzg94gBM/WKyCxZFPOXI/AAAAAAAADZk/0Q3nalxdWc8uxHNxQQz6mEs0xWib8J02gCLcB/s320/DSCF2862.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
We filled the cup half way with dirt</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WbS6h6VOgiM/WKyCxJdhLoI/AAAAAAAADZg/V1zPR5gAMXwskuGpVO-1HKDP8GjhuwGewCLcB/s1600/DSCF2858.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WbS6h6VOgiM/WKyCxJdhLoI/AAAAAAAADZg/V1zPR5gAMXwskuGpVO-1HKDP8GjhuwGewCLcB/s320/DSCF2858.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Push seeds into the dirt.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Filled the rest of the cup and put it in the window to get sunlight. I watered it every other day and pretty soon we had some long haired grass heads.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Brandon thought it would be fun to cut his hair into a mohawk.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h2avs1mpIiA/WJqMQdmkdPI/AAAAAAAADZM/KmZ0bwuELcgYjMPAbt5x2laYms3g5a_igCLcB/s1600/DSCF2836.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h2avs1mpIiA/WJqMQdmkdPI/AAAAAAAADZM/KmZ0bwuELcgYjMPAbt5x2laYms3g5a_igCLcB/s320/DSCF2836.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's a great activity that's as simple as it comes. Do the items sink or float? Before the kids were allowed to touch water, we made predictions and sorted the items between what they thought would sink or float. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Mfl8091guoA/WJqMQSrzYaI/AAAAAAAADZE/UUJReMHUsAAgSPnIyCJlmUhHT7ph_V25gCLcB/s1600/DSCF2839.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Mfl8091guoA/WJqMQSrzYaI/AAAAAAAADZE/UUJReMHUsAAgSPnIyCJlmUhHT7ph_V25gCLcB/s320/DSCF2839.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After testing everything, we discussed our predictions. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LWddcPLl5w8/WJqMQVQxC2I/AAAAAAAADZI/EhhnbNyOmeohawh3ltuY1KiV_8UwVw-KACLcB/s1600/DSCF2840.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LWddcPLl5w8/WJqMQVQxC2I/AAAAAAAADZI/EhhnbNyOmeohawh3ltuY1KiV_8UwVw-KACLcB/s320/DSCF2840.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To create a little bit of flare we added a writing component to the activity. The kids drew pictures or wrote letters or words to represent the items that sunk and floated. Do you see that cute little "roc?" I was so proud of the kids for trying letters and sounds to create words. And that adorable little two legged dog is pretty fun too. </div>
<br />

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jZ-tXent19g/WJDUAVSE5mI/AAAAAAAADYc/mYrJUrE0KAIJBE6zoRQS-z9BUJ2pI5ciACLcB/s1600/DSCF2842.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jZ-tXent19g/WJDUAVSE5mI/AAAAAAAADYc/mYrJUrE0KAIJBE6zoRQS-z9BUJ2pI5ciACLcB/s320/DSCF2842.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When you work with children you aren't just teaching them academics. You are helping them learn how to be a human being that is part of a community. For my kids, our community is our classroom and hopefully the things they are learning in class will go with them out into the world.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Talking about emotions is kind of a big deal with 3, 4, and 5 year olds. It's pretty obvious that controlling emotions isn't necessarily their strong suit and that's where we come in. When talking to little ones about emotions there are some important truths to help them understand.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SphNMPCOqJs/WJDUAi6WsoI/AAAAAAAADYk/OKcsR9LK7acPAoH6dLufHBSQjKD85apIgCLcB/s1600/DSCF2845.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SphNMPCOqJs/WJDUAi6WsoI/AAAAAAAADYk/OKcsR9LK7acPAoH6dLufHBSQjKD85apIgCLcB/s320/DSCF2845.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. Feeling emotions is totally normal. Everyone feels sad sometimes, everyone feels angry sometimes, it is normal.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. Recognizing how you are feeling is a huge deal. As adults, we can teach our kids empathy when we help them see that we recognize how they are feeling and help them through it. My son Brandon was crying during carpet time. So we stopped to talk about it as a class. Why are you crying? "We put away his blocks when it was time to clean up and he wasn't done." Did you know we would clean up even if he wasn't done? "Yes" I asked the other kids, what are things you do when you are feeling sad to cheer yourself up? Madden sang a cute song about taking 4 deep breaths. Jaxon said he goes to his room to cry and then comes out to play when he's done. I said I like to get hugs or sometimes listen to music. Then we asked Brandon if he has a favorite song we could sing to cheer him up. So we rocked out to Dr. Jean's "Bear Hunt" and he felt better. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. What we do when we are feeling those emotions is important. Yes we feel angry, but is hitting someone okay? Nope. Is there something you can do to help you calm down? Take deep breaths, run around outside, kick a soccer ball outside, talk to a friend . . . This is our job, to give them tools to keep in their tool belt that they can pull out when they are struggling.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
One of my kids especially struggles with keeping her emotions in check. So we have worked on putting tools her tool belt. When she is upset I can use key words to talk to her about choosing a strategy to help her through those hard times. Here's what we talk about - balloon breaths (breath in deep, puff out your cheeks and blow the air out slowly like you are blowing up a balloon), belly breaths (breathing deeply and slowly so your belly goes in and out - in the nose and out the mouth), get a hug (it's usually a pretty long hug), lay in bed and snuggle your favorite stuffed animal, put on headphones and listen to music (we have a kid friendly mp3 player with a playlist on it of their favorite, appropriate songs. This one is HUGE for kids who can get out of control. On a side note, this also helps get them going on doing their chores too), are we being flexible, are we trusting mom that everything will be okay, or read a book. It's not perfect and we have been working on it for <i>years</i>, adding new strategies to fit her age, but it has helped improve the melt downs and stress.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hRvvuxtWssw/WJDUAjM4z5I/AAAAAAAADYg/l1vHk1OEKDQuYTh33ZO5BnhcTWx-xVBvwCLcB/s1600/DSCF2766.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hRvvuxtWssw/WJDUAjM4z5I/AAAAAAAADYg/l1vHk1OEKDQuYTh33ZO5BnhcTWx-xVBvwCLcB/s320/DSCF2766.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We spent some time in class talking about emotions. We discussed what emotions are. We listed different kinds of emotions. We read Today I Feel Silly by Jamie Lee Curtis.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Image result for today i feel silly" height="163" src="https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/hostedimages/1430319564i/14703445.jpg" width="200" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then we used my new favorite activity to explore emotions more deeply. I found this amazing make a face toy at <a href="https://mrprintables.com/learning-about-emotions.html" target="_blank">Mr.Printables.com</a>. We took turns making our face show different emotions. First I made a few faces and the kids talked about what emotion they are seeing. Then, we had two friends come up. One friend made a face and the other friend changed the paper face to match. It was really fun and a really great way to explore our emotions.</div>

Read more about this activity below. (Do you like Brandon's homemade Halloween decorations? There is Frankenstein, a ghost and he wrote "beware." So adorable!)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
. . . dotted diamonds. We used Bingo markers to make dots on diamonds after we read the book: <u>Lots of Dots.</u><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y0338OEdexQ/WEr4ruHe6TI/AAAAAAAADWc/s5LwodtI5NcCT0ts5GmWaF2pbb6J3W6ZQCLcB/s1600/DSCF2650.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y0338OEdexQ/WEr4ruHe6TI/AAAAAAAADWc/s5LwodtI5NcCT0ts5GmWaF2pbb6J3W6ZQCLcB/s320/DSCF2650.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here's what we did for our letter D dump station.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Nq6NBuTkgWg/WEr4cpLZu0I/AAAAAAAADWM/GcT4BEbh99gyp9FTOWYmangh7OKe8qcyACLcB/s1600/DSCF2636.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Nq6NBuTkgWg/WEr4cpLZu0I/AAAAAAAADWM/GcT4BEbh99gyp9FTOWYmangh7OKe8qcyACLcB/s320/DSCF2636.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I hung a bucket with the letter Dd written on it. To hang it I just put a small nail right above the door frame. You can't see it from the ground so it isn't noticeable after we were done.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jQXN53ME6Fg/WEr4cSHPtJI/AAAAAAAADWE/N2LBM40kVpUP6sPLJh7MrHgHLDtOteopACLcB/s1600/DSCF2637.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jQXN53ME6Fg/WEr4cSHPtJI/AAAAAAAADWE/N2LBM40kVpUP6sPLJh7MrHgHLDtOteopACLcB/s320/DSCF2637.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Below the bucket I had a box with various items. Some started with the letter D (dolphin, diamond, dice, dinosaur, dragon, Dora, duck, etc.) and some didn't.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4XITC9XtU4E/WEr4drBiVYI/AAAAAAAADWQ/9DF29ylhYl084Ai4xQG8ExG7EdcwynnIwCLcB/s1600/DSCF2642.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4XITC9XtU4E/WEr4drBiVYI/AAAAAAAADWQ/9DF29ylhYl084Ai4xQG8ExG7EdcwynnIwCLcB/s320/DSCF2642.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The kids sorted out the things that started with the letter D and put it in the bucket. After they found all the items, it was time to DUMP! Then they did it again.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It seems like every year I discover new reasons to love where I live. This year we went to the annual Orem fire department open house and it did not disappoint. They had amazing demonstrations of how they do what they do, safety tips and learning, free food and goodies, <i>and</i> cool vehicles that they let us climb in. I even got to participate in a demonstration and put out a small fire with a fire extinguisher! It was amazing and I think it will become and annual trip. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here are some pictures of the things we did and saw. Don't mind all of the thumbs up pictures, for some reason they kept asking the kids to give them a thumbs up when they took them so, that's what we get. :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gz3Fzm6Gf7Y/WG2M-BfUfFI/AAAAAAAADWw/8dBfHBMZvrs0o56WP-AJZBfWIszgAycWwCLcB/s1600/DSCF2557.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gz3Fzm6Gf7Y/WG2M-BfUfFI/AAAAAAAADWw/8dBfHBMZvrs0o56WP-AJZBfWIszgAycWwCLcB/s320/DSCF2557.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Checked out the inside of a helicopter</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
While we were there we watched a demonstration of how the firemen rescue people from being trapped inside cars. First they took the car door off of the car. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xzRheqfHwQs/WG2M-FuMJ9I/AAAAAAAADWs/uhn1sEF7hwwggDYzfx2N611poFQVDRqjwCLcB/s1600/DSCF2562.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xzRheqfHwQs/WG2M-FuMJ9I/AAAAAAAADWs/uhn1sEF7hwwggDYzfx2N611poFQVDRqjwCLcB/s320/DSCF2562.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then they used the jaws of life to cut the car open.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jCPDZNzZwmE/WG2M-Wj4hMI/AAAAAAAADW0/iBxmDmvrUqkPlZZS-HxEjMU7Za312snfgCLcB/s1600/DSCF2565.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jCPDZNzZwmE/WG2M-Wj4hMI/AAAAAAAADW0/iBxmDmvrUqkPlZZS-HxEjMU7Za312snfgCLcB/s320/DSCF2565.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They completely removed the top and basically made the car into a convertible. It was amazing</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i9c9Hrvhcfo/WG2M_9vkQ7I/AAAAAAAADW4/u87e29SG9nQLkF5JYcecqw-Jdu0UVs4uQCLcB/s1600/DSCF2571.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i9c9Hrvhcfo/WG2M_9vkQ7I/AAAAAAAADW4/u87e29SG9nQLkF5JYcecqw-Jdu0UVs4uQCLcB/s320/DSCF2571.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Another demonstration showed what to do in case of a fire. They had an little trailer that was filled with "smoke." The kids had to crawl through it to get out safely. It was a little scary for them, but they were brave and learned about fire safety in the process. </div>

This demonstration was by far the coolest. They made a huge tower of fire and demonstrated two ways they put fires out. The first was done by the firefighters. Fun side note, that guy in the middle is a guy I know from my home town in California. It was a fun surprise to see him there. </div>
