Meet the Teacher

My name is Laura Chipman and I am originally from California. I am a mom of three beautiful girls ages 12, 8, and 6 and a handsome little boy, age 4. I went to school at Brigham Young University where I earned my degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education with a minor in TESOL (teaching English language learners).
I wanted to be a teacher since I was a young child. I was inspired by my brother's teacher and the students' dedication to her. Since then I have observed and noted good practices that teachers have shown me from elementary school to now. I have tried to emulate those good practices in my own teaching to make my classroom fun, interesting, and inviting.
I have been teaching in one capacity or another for the last 12 years. (With the exception of one year when we were preparing for a move.) I traveled to Russia and taught English for 4 months. I taught incoming college Freshmen how to use time and resources wisely as a peer mentor. I have been a lead teacher in two different preschools; one private preschool in Colorado and as a student teacher at the BYU preschool. I had my own third grade classroom for two years. This is my 7th year running Chipman's Corner Preschool. Intermixed between all this, I have also taught various age groups within our church.
I love to play soccer, softball, and to swim. My family and I like to rollerblade, read, watch movies, and sing.
The name "Chipman's Corner" comes from a family tradition on my husband's side. Every Christmas they get all their friends and family together to have a night of music and fun. All who want to, participate by singing or playing an instrument. It has happened that the Chipmans have always lived on the corner of their street, so each year they called the party Christmas at Chipman's Corner. When we bought our first house on the corner of our street, we only thought it appropriate that we continue the tradition of doing fun things at Chipman's Corner. We were so excited to keep the name when we moved to Utah and bought another house on a corner.
I am really excited to be a part of your child's life. Teaching is something that I am very passionate about and I know that we will all have a lot of fun together. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.
