Philosophy

I support the teaching philosophies of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). I believe that through play or the use of hands-on exploration and sensory learning, children learn in important ways. It allows children to gain new knowledge that they can relate to things they already know. It is important they are able to learn in a relaxed atmosphere where choice and play are key components of the environment.
Parents are the most fundamental element in a preschooler's life. It is important to me that we work together to create an atmosphere that supports the whole development of your child. I will do this through personal contact, newsletters, and blogging. Parents are always welcome in the classroom to observe, help, or suggest.
In the classroom, we will strive to create a caring community of learners. Social relationships are an important part of the learning process. We will treat each other and ourselves with respect and love. The classroom will be a place that supports health, safety, and growth. I will keep things organized with a structured routine where learning can take place. There will be a variety of materials and experiences offered to the children to enhance development.
I believe that at this young of an age, play is how children learn and make sense of the world. Through carefully planned and structured play that is based on appropriate curriculum, children will learn and develop. Many of the activities we do will focus on helping the children make sense of their world. They will be able to practice skills and roles in a safe environment where they feel comfortable taking risks.
Choices are another part of the focus in my preschool. Children at this age want to exert their independence. I will offer a variety of choices that are appropriate. Children can choose for themselves and become more engaged in their learning by doing so.
Your child is the most important part of our classroom. I will strive to help them feel comfortable, feel loved, and grow in all areas of their development. I will work to know each child on a personal level. I will learn their strengths and weaknesses so that we can work together to create the best learning experience for them.
